A Qualified Natural Habitat Lot is approved when the lot contains primarily native plants and grasses with no more than 25% of the lot containing invasive or noxious plants, and grasses or has an established dune or wetland.
A recent survey of approved Qualified Natural Habitat Lots was conducted on the entire Island. A total of nine properties are pending the required signage as per the ordinance. These signs shall be installed by the owner in a manner that it will not become a nuisance in the event of a windstorm, and shall be visible from the nearest right-of-way. The owners will be notified and have 10 days to comply.
If your lot qualifies as a Natural Habitat Lot in South Padre Island, you are not required to keep it mowed so for a absentee owner, it can be an advantage.
