The 2nd Annual South Padre Island Longest Causeway Run and Fitness Walk is Saturday, June 4th, and with it travelers to the Island need to be aware of possible delays due to traffic being shifted to one side of the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway.
All eastbound traffic will be directed to the inside lane of the causeway beginning at Garcia St. in Port Isabel on June 4th between 5:00 a.m. and approximately 11:00 a.m. Traffic barrels, traffic cones and police officers will be directing all motor vehicles to the inside lane. Additionally, the speed limit on the Queen Isabella Causeway will be reduced to 20 miles per hour for the duration of the event.
Additionally, South Padre Island Police will stop all traffic at the south entrance to the Schlitterbahn parking lot at 7:30 a.m. to allow the walking participants in the event to cross the street safely. The traffic stoppage is only expected to last between 15 and 30 minutes. Once all walkers have cleared the area, traffic will be allowed to resume as normal.
The 2nd Annual South Padre Island Longest Causeway Run and Fitness Walk participants will depart from the Schlitterbahn parking lot promptly at 7:00 a.m. Event planners expect all runners and walkers to have cleared the bridge and be on the Port Isabel side by 9:00 a.m. The participants will end at the new Port Isabel Event & Cultural Center shortly thereafter. Around 2,500 people are expected to participate in the summer run.
